Practical capstone: analysis, risk and review

The capstone combines a conditional idea, a fully stated calculation and an honest review. It is an educational assignment, not a recommendation to trade or a professional qualification. Passing its knowledge check shows understanding of the supplied material, not an ability to earn a reliable return.
What you will learn
- Explain practical capstone: analysis, risk and review.
- Work through the stated hypothetical example with explicit units.
- Recognise limitations and apply a documented practice check.
Assemble a complete hypothetical decision
Use a conventional EUR/USD long scenario with entry 1.1000, stop trigger 1.0980 and target 1.1040. This gives 20 adverse pips and 40 favourable pips, or 2:1 gross reward-to-risk. With USD 20 reserved for adverse price movement and USD 200 adverse movement per lot, volume is 0.10 conventional lots before costs and execution uncertainty.
The scenario still needs a valid entry hypothesis, no-trade conditions, actual contract checks and an allowance for costs. A mathematically correct size does not make the entry reasonable. If the required data or specifications are missing, stop at the written exercise. Do not invent a live chart, market timestamp or current price to make the capstone seem realistic.
Define the evidence needed for review
Write the decision-time observations, invalidation, execution assumptions and volume calculation before evaluating an outcome. Then compare any supplied hypothetical or demo-labelled fill with the plan and record costs separately. If the long exits at the stated target on 10,000 EUR, gross result is 0.0040 × 10,000 = USD 40; a stop-level fill gives −USD 20 before costs.
Grade arithmetic, information timing and adherence independently from the favourable or adverse outcome. The Academy final assessment must use actual submitted answers; it cannot certify market performance or save account progress without a verified student connection. A completed educational assignment remains distinct from a licence, qualification or guaranteed trading skill.
Key terms
- Capstone
- An assignment combining several previously learned skills.
- Decision record
- Evidence and rules documented before evaluating the outcome.
- Educational completion
- Completion of stated learning requirements, not verified trading competence.
Hypothetical worked example · Not live market prices
A hypothetical complete EUR/USD plan
- Entry 1.1000, stop trigger 1.0980 and target 1.1040.
- Risk distance 20 pips at USD 10 per pip per lot gives USD 200 per lot; USD 20 allowance gives 0.10 lots.
- At the stated target, 40 pips on 0.10 lots gives USD 40 gross; costs and adverse execution remain separate.
| Item | Calculation | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Risk pips | 0.0020 ÷ 0.0001 | 20 |
| Reward pips | 0.0040 ÷ 0.0001 | 40 |
| Volume | USD 20 ÷ USD 200 | 0.10 lots |
| Target gross | 40 × USD 10 × 0.10 | USD 40 |
Simplified educational calculations. Costs, slippage and provider-specific adjustments apply where relevant; these are not actual returns.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Confusing correct arithmetic with a valid signal; justify the hypothesis separately.
- Presenting a stop-level result as guaranteed; execution can differ.
- Calling an assessment pass a trading qualification; keep educational claims limited.
Lesson summary
A complete practice decision states evidence, conditions, contract assumptions, risk, costs and review criteria. Correct educational answers do not guarantee trading success.
Practical exercise
Write the full hypothetical capstone plan and verify 20 risk pips, 40 reward pips, 2:1 gross ratio and 0.10 lots before costs. Include one failure scenario, missing-input handling and a post-decision review template. Submit the knowledge check only after checking your arithmetic.
